I'm looking for a good source to purchase a dolly to move a 450 lb lathe. I want to be able to roll it out of my rod shop to use.

I know a lot of you guys do woodworking and someone may know of an online source to purchase tool moving dollies.

I would like one that the wheels lift up so the lathe runs on a solid surface. I know from experience that running a lathe on a wheeled platform causes problems.

OneWay makes a wheel set for the lathes - I checked yesterday. I can't find a photo of them on their site, however, so I don't know how easy it is to remove or lock them. Their site says that they are "quickly attached or removed." Guess it depends on their idea of what "quickly" means.

I talked to Oneway yesterday and at first the said they had wheels for a 1224 and they would check on a price. Then they called back and told me they were unhappy with the wheels and would not sell them for a 1224.

That is why I have started looking else where.

All I can think of is some sort of dolley on wheels but with a platform that sits on the ground until you jack it up an inch or so. Something foot operated perhaps. It would seem that such a thing already exists, somewhere, if you can only find it. But you could probably modify or make something with a set of the same type dolleys you have now.

Or... make a "docking station" from wood or something that you can place around the wheels on the dolley to chock them solid when you roll the unit outside. That might be the easiest thing to do.

Call Buddy Owens - he'll know how to proceed.

You might try this link - they have a huge selection of metal and wood working equipment - I just bought a 4 jaw self centering chuck for my lathe from them......
