Right here. seriously. I have learned more by reading the posts on this sight than in any of the books I have read or videos I have seen. The wealth of available knowledge on this sight is unbelievable. Rodmaker magazine is great. I am sure Tom Kirkmans book will be highly recommended, I haven't read it yet but it's on order. Advanced Custom Rod Building by Dale Clemens is the best I have read so far.
But, I think you will find that the people on this sight will be your most valuable source of information.

Nick,
If you wish to glean previous information from this site you might find it helpful to use the search link just above your post.
Check with sponsor sites for good info that they may offer in the way of books or videos. Most will have vivid descriptions.

Kirkman's Rod Building Guide is a relevant book for current trends in rodbuilding as a guide and reference with explanation of basic techniques with good picture sequences. RodMaker is a good bet, and check into some of the back issues available through the RodMaker magazine link to the left.

Keep tuned, you'll get information about video choices and if you present questions here, I'm sure you'll get kind and considerate information straight back at you that you can apply to your interests in building custom rods.

Nick,
Some of the sponcer links at left have online instruction. I highly recommend getting Tom Kirkman's Rod Building Guide very easy to follow and it has a lot of photos. Dale Clemens' Advanced Custom Rod Building is another good book on the subject. This site is the best place to get information, ask a question here and someone will have, or will find the answer for you.

Obviously I'm biased in this regard, but I am always a bit amused at the different posts on so many of the message boards. RodMaker Magazine has already answered nearly every question that I have ever seen asked on these various boards. And in great detail, I might add.

The benefit of this message board, and many others, is that it allows you to get a quick answer to any pressing problem or question you run into while building a rod. And most of the time it takes only a matter of hours, if not just minutes.

By the way, both of the Flex Coats books on rod builder are excellent for very basic "how-to" information.
