why the 8 x 14...

instead of the 9 by 20 Lathemaster? Is it a space thing? A weight difference? A cost thing ($100 ) or is the 8 x 14 better and more capable in some way?
Glad to see all the good reports on this company. Been looking at them for a while.
How to pick between the 9 x 20 and the 8 x 14.

You can do small jobs on a bigger lathe but you cannot do larger jobs on a smaller lathe. If you have the room, the money and something to support it, the larger lathes are almost the way to go. If, that is, you actually need that extra capacity.

Bill,
Call Bob Bertrand at Lathemaster, and tell him I sent you. He's a very honest guy, and he'll tell you the 8 x 14 is a better made more quality lathe than the 9 x 20, even though the 9 x 20 is bigger.
Supposedly they are making a much larger version of the 8 x 14 with the exact same quality....that's the one I am waiting on.
