Sulky Metallics?

While recouperating from my arm surgery I had my friend Dave wrap up
a Lami blank for me and gave him some silver Sulky metallic to try on the trim bands. Well once the epoxy was applied it became completely transparent?? Wondering if anyone else ran into this problem? Or possibly it wasnt metallic after all?

Hmmmmmmm?

Russ,
I have used silver Sulky Metallic thread for a while now on my American flag wraps and have never had anything like that happen.

Metallic should have the film wrapped around a core. Pinching it between your fingernail and thumbnail and pulling the end to separate it will tell you for sure.

I have some silk that's a shiny electric blue, but when you hit it with finish, it goes to a translucent royal blue, without any glitter. Same with the fire red and the bright orange.

Russ, it's possible it was packaged wrong, I guess? Or maybe you picked it up in teh Metallic section, and someone threw it in there by accident/they didn't want it/they were trying to screw you. lol.

Billy,
I bought it online from joanns.com so either the item number was wrong or they grabbed the wrong spool when packing the order?
Now I am going to have to check the others......................................

The spool itself, if it is really metallic, should say on the rim "Sulky Metallic 142 xxxx", where "xxxx" is for each color. The "142" denotes that particular metallic series (the one that works for rodbuilding). If your spool says that, but the thread went transparent, the mistake was made at the factory.
