I currently use a 1508 model breakaway as my 8 n bait rod at the coast. I built this rod several years ago and noticed on the last trip that the epoxy has cracked on the butt wrap. On the 1508 my butt wrap is the ferrule wrap as well. I have never had this happen to another rod so if anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. I can tell you that this tip section has never been dropped, stepped on etc... The cracks are located at each end of the wrap and one crack is within the body of the wrap. To my knowledge, I do not believe the ferrule has cracked or at least not that I can't feel inside. Thanks Re: Epoxy Cracking, not on guides

I fish on a boat where the all the owner's rods have butt wraps which have cracked. These rods are used every single day, 320+ days per year, some for 20 years. Some are 3-4 years old. The rod flex's into the butt when you load up for a cast, fight a fish, etc. The epoxy used is not as flexible as the blank, ergo it cracks. Re: Epoxy Cracking, not on guides

I have a couple more trips planned this winter before I'll hang the rod up until spring. Is this someting I need to fix ASAP or would it be OK to fish for a couple more weekends ? I just want to make sure I don't do any damage to the blank. Thanks, Re: Epoxy Cracking, not on guides

No problem whatsoever. If it doesn't bother you, you can leave it like that. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
