greetings all
i'm looking for info on ,how to go about explaining to clients of mine the different actions of rods, slow ,medium,medium-fast,fast etc.
generally they all use the wiggle test or stick the rod on to the ceiling in order to see the "action".

how do we determine the action of a rod,by just looking and holding it.

please excuse the dumb question but i am unable to find anything that is coherient and is not written by rod manufactures, who seem to dream up new words for their technology, but have no definitions or means to compare each other to.
cheers
Gary.

It is how far the rod bends from the tip. An extra-fast action will bend only at the upper portion of the blank, where a slow action the bend will be most of the length of the rod. If you go to the Shikari website and then select the design button and select actions, at the bottom of the page is a diagram that shows what the different actions are in a blank.

I always think of a blank or rod as a Spring. A soft or slow spring will tend to beed all the way to the butt when the end is held and tip is put under pressure. Return to the streight position and tend to " wobble " before it rests or stops. A fast spring will tend to bend at the tip and recover faster and generally has no " wobble " Guess ya got to think about it for a while??

Looking at the taper (relationship of butt to tip diameter) of the blank can give you some clue, but actually flexing it and looking at it is the best way. If you have the CCS numbers, you can tell just by looking at the AA.

Your customers are probably doing things the best way, as long as they understand the proper way to flex a blank by hand.
