I realize this may be akin to asking a kid in a candy store which candy is better; but here goes! I’m attempting to build my first serious casting rod and was wondering if there is a consensus of opinion on which style or type of ceramic guides perform better? It will be an 8 1/2 foot Mag-Medium Ex-Fast used with both low profile and small bait casting reels. I’ll be throwing lures of all sorts with the low profile and looking for distance; and will use bait with the other reel if it matters. Thanks for your previous help, and am looking forward to these choices. Happy Holidays to all Fred Re: Simple Guide Question or Opinion

I use forecast myself, however it is personal preference. I build a lot of 8'6" rods for steelhead here in the NW. 1 #12 1 #10 2 #08 5 #07 Tip Top If I am putting single foots towards the tip I use 1 #12 1 #10 2 #08 1 #07 4 single foot guides Tip Top It all depends on how much money you want to put into the rod. Hope this helps. Dave Re: Simple Guide Question or Opinion

Fred, I have an 8 foot casting rod that I made using a Loomis steelhead blank. I used Fuji alconites spiraled wrapped. Cheers, Ellis Re: Simple Guide Question or Opinion

I go along with David except for using more single foot guides. Most of my casting rods will use only a 12 and 10 in doubles and then right to single foot fly guides from 8 on down. Oh..and it's nearly always spiral and Forecast guides. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
