Beinng new to rodbuilding, I've run into trouble with the u-40 not setting up. Its so soft that it leaves finger prints when touched. I decided to strip and redo. What is the best way to remove the U-40 material. thank you... Re: striping

If it didn't set up, then you probably have an incorrect mixing ratio. You have at least two options: 1. Very carefully measure equal portions of the finish and mix thouroughly. (It definitely will set up rock hard if you measure an exact 1:1 ratio of resin and hardener.) Then, recoat with a thin application of the new mix. That should set up and take care of your problem. 2. You can slice the thread on top of the guide foot with a razor blade and peel the thread and finish off and start over. One other option is to wipe the finish off with a gloved finger and recoat from there. But unless it is still an almost liquid consistency this isn't a viable option. Check also that you have had the rod in a reasonably warm room type temperature for a few days. Cool temps can cause the product to take a longer time to set up. Just remember that whatever happened to keep the U-40 from setting up will also cause any other finish not to set up as well. ..............................
