13 ft Guide Spacing

Hello,

I'm building a 2 piece 13 foot Light Action drift rod and I have been unable to find a rod spacing chart for this "odd duck".

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Just something to get me started.

Tight Lines,

Matt

Matt,

Are you talking a steelhead rod? Follow the instructions in the library section about static placement for the best method.

If you're talking about a float rod for steelhead, then here's what I do. Start with your butt guide and figure out where it's got to go. That is determined by the reel you're putting on it. I plan all of mine for centerpin reels, so I'll go about 24-30" from where I expect the reel to be. Then I'll start from the top. Put the first guide at 4", the next 3 at 5", the next 3 at 6". That will get you 3' down the blank. Now use static placement for the rest.

I like the guides close on the tip because landing steelhead with a rod that long is tough. A lot of guys high stick them (myself included at times) when they aren't paying attention. The extra guides help with distribution.

Thanks,
Rick
