Can anyone describe the working process when making clear wraps using Pearsalls Gossamer white silk thread ? I have the thread and a good varnish (boat varnish). And will black Gossamer thread stay black when finished the same way ? I'll be trying to make clear wraps on a yellow (Lamiglas) fiberglass blank. Thanks Peter Re: Clear wraps - working process

Pete.. The process I've used for this elegant look is: (1) wrap. (2) varnish. The key to the translucency is mostly in the very fine (6/0) gossamer thread. Full penetration of the thread by the varnish is also needed, and I thin mine about 10% with mineral spirits.Good luck. Barry Re: Clear wraps - working process

P.S.. The black (trim ring?) doesn't need c.p.; it'll look fine without it. Barry Re: Clear wraps - working process

The varnish itself will probably yellow quickly. I'd use Permagloss because it stays water white clear. Re: Clear wraps - working process

Yes, I would use Perma-Gloss. Ralph Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
