What's the difference between these two types of grip materials? Is there a preference for certain applications? Is one softer or more pliable than the other. I always wondered, now I remembered to ask. Thanks, Tony You can tell winter's starting to set in the Northeast when this is what I sit and wonder about. Re: EVA or Hypalon

Hypalon is very dense, takes a lot of abuse, can be cleaned, is heavy, great on salt water rods, comes in round straight lengths and shaped foregrip sizes, most have a 1/2" diameter bore or larger, comes in limited colors. EVA is softer (several different grades) and is a bit more pliable, takes a lot of abuse etc. etc., comes in many different colors and also available in sheet form and solid square stock. It is available in a bunch of smaller bore diameters. It's a bit easier to work with in my opinion but I'm an old So. Cal. boat rat and prefer Hypalon on my salt rods. The same method of application is used on both materials. Re: EVA or Hypalon

Tony, just hit a party boat & go Blackfishing. Hypalon is "spongier" than EVA. I love how Hypalon feels in my hand, I hate how heavy it is though. Hands down Hypalon is more durable than EVA. Inshore stuff, like Blackfish rods - I usually put EVA in the butt and deal with it if it getsdinged up, and HYpalon in teh foregrip. This does not ruin the balance of the rod, and keeps added weight to a minimum. This is my personal preference. Offshore I used all Hypalon as I expect tose rods to get abuse more than an INshore rod & they are a bit heavier so teh added weight usually isn't as noticeable when the reel is attached.
