I would like to build my lady friend a 9-10 ft Plugging Spinning rod rated for 1-3 oz But have no idea what guides are typically used for such a rod. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe Re: Plugging Rod Guide Choices

Joe, I've built a bunch of rods for surf casting in the Northeast. The most important question, I think, is whether she's going to use braid or mono. With braid I start with a 30mm fuji and drop down to a 10 or 12 tip. With mono I think you'll want to use a size 40 stripper. (And do you have a specific reel in mind?) Unless your friend is really tough on gear, I'd recommend that you go with a double footed stripper guides and single-foots out to the tip. Jud Re: Plugging Rod Guide Choices

Hey Joe... Ring size and frame height depends largely on the size of reel and line choice. I'd recommend a concept guide placement. Fuji SVSG's or BHVLG's are common for the stripper and next couple guides. I'd use low frame single or double foot concept guides from the choke point out to the tip. I'm doing the guide setup and test casting on an 11-foot XRA1321 this weekend... if you want to give me a call and swing by I can show you what my setup looks like. I've used both BSVLG and BMNAG on my plugging rods. Although I am considering a combo of BMNAG and BYAG on my next. Tony Re: Plugging Rod Guide Choices

I use Fuji BSVLG guides on that type of rod. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
