I had run out of epoxy at the house and instead of ordering more I bought some from a friend, my question is the container in which I put it in was two of the generic mustard and ketchup bottles, plastic. Can I tell if the bottles have silicone in them and if so is that batch of epoxy contaminated and is there any way to save it. Secondly, is the fish eye effect the most common problem with silicone contaminated epoxy. Thanks, Re: Epoxy containers

I wouldn't put my finishing epoxy into anything like that, but if you did wash them out thouroughly you should be okay. Finish contamination is actually very rare, although it's the thing most builders automatically suspect when something goes wrong. If you do have silicone in your finish, you'll know it by the hundreds of tiny fish eyes that appear as soon as you apply the finish. .................. Re: Epoxy containers

It is MUCH easier to blame it on something else than on something that I did, that's for sure. Just human nature at work here... Putter Re: Epoxy containers

I would have just put the new stuff into the old epoxy bottles I had. Resin to resin and hardener to hardener. Don't know about mustard and ketchup bottles but like Tom said if you washed them out good then you should be okay. Re: Epoxy containers

One big cause of fisheyes is finger oil... if you rub your blank to remove something, like china marker, or when you're compressing the threads, aligning guides.. finger oils get on the blank. This will cause fisheyes. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
