Lamiglas Blank

A good friend of mine has an old Lamiglas blank (about 15 to 17 years old) that for some reason he never worked up. It is a fiberglass blank # SH 97 2F - an 8ft., 6# to 12# line, 3/8 to 3/4 lure wt. blank. He is a superb rod builder and thinks he could build me a nice spinning rod for the large Gerard Rainbow and Macs (20 lbs +) that I like to fish for in No. Idaho - Lake Pend Oreille. I have never owned a Lamiglas rod - have several GLoomis and All Star rods. Can any of you give me your opinion of the glass blanks built by Lamiglas. Are any of you familiar with glass blanks of this vintage?
Using Fuji single-foot guides, reel seet, and top of the line cork rod butt my friend said he will give it to me for about $75 to $85 - can't beat that. Any thoughts would be appreciated. THANKS, Mike

Hi Mike,

I am not a fresh water fisherman so am not familiar with this blank.

Lamiglas makes fine blanks. I build on many.

In fiberglas the shortest they produce now is 8 1/2" and the blank retails for $86.

You very well might have a diamond in the rough. He will sell it for $75 to $85 and you have to think about it! In my area that could very well be a $400 custom rod.

Good luck.

Capt Neil

Thanks, Capt. He is a good enough friend he is doing it just for the cost of the guides, seet, etc. He builds a couple of rods a month just as a hobby - something to do. I just don't want to have him build a rod I would'nt be happy with for any price, when he could build it for someone who would. I'm going to see him this week and see the blank. Thanks for the info. Mike
