I have some left over Damar varnish from another project. Any obvious reason it will not work as a thread finish, at least as an undercoat? Re: Damar varnish as a thread finish?

Don, I've used it in the past. The chief drawback is that it takes months, literally, to cure. You can speed the cure a little by using a light coat of good spar varnish over the top. The driers in the spar should "kick" the Damar varnish and make it dry quicker in theory. After I did a few wraps with Damar, then kicked 'em with spar, I cut them off. The Damar was still moist even several weeks after adding the spar. I'd avoid it. Harry Boyd Re: Damar varnish as a thread finish?
