I found some cool looking Rayon thread at a craft store. Can I use this for wrapping my guides? Re: Rayon thread ok?

One of the potential problems with using threads from non-rod building sources is the possibility that they have been treated with silicone as a lubricant to allow them to run smoothly through sewing machines. Silicone reacts negatively with epoxy coatings causing fish eyes. If that hasn't happened to you yet, you will know it the moment it does! So, threads from other sources can be a gamble. Try finish on a test wrap before you commit to a rod. Re: Rayon thread ok?

I know of another rodmaker that uses rayon threads for decorative wraps (not for guides) and he said to avoid fish eyes, he used CP. I am not as adventurous so I hope this suggestion helps. Let us all know how it turns out. Re: Rayon thread ok?
