I'm rewrapping 2 older rods. The finish on the blank, not the wraps, is chipped and is coming off. I'm trying to remove it with alcohol and steel wool but it's not getting the stubborn bits. Any suggestions on removing it? I have some 600 wet/dry sandpaper but am afraid I'll damage the blank with it. Do I have to apply a new finish or can I just leave it unfinished? Scraping is the best way although you still must be careful. Make a "score" line around the edges of the guide wraps with a sharp razor blade. Then scrape of the blank finish from between. Many times the finish is not adhered well and once you lift a corner you can almost peel it all off. .................. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
