I AM TRYING TO LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT FLY RODS. I HAVE A 9' FLY BLANK THAT I GOT IN A PACKAGE DEAL. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT BRAND. IT IS LIGHT AND STRAIT, AND SEEMS TO BE A DECENT QUALITY BLANK. THE WAY I READ THE COMMON CENTS SYSTEM IT TOOK 56 PENNYS TO DEFLECT THIS BLANK FROM LEVEL TO 36". ACCORDING TO MY CALCULATION THIS IS AN ERN OF 7.15. ACTION ANGLE IS ABOUT 69 DEGREES. DOES THAT MAKE THIS A 7 WT. BLANK.ALSO CAN I PUT 7 WT. FLOATING LINE ON THIS AND USE IT TO FISH NYMPHS. I AM A BASS FISHERMAN AND ROD BUILDER TRYING TO BROADEN MY HORIZONS. I NEED ALL THE HALP I CAN GET. THANKS , KEITH Re: ERN AND LINE WT.

Any fly rod will work with a 7 wt line. There is no such thing as a true 7 wt rod or a rod that will only cast a 7 wt line. You can get some idea of the power your rod has and what lines it will cast best at certain distances with the common cents ERN figure. A 7.5 would match well with a 7 wt line for most people witth about 30 feet of line past the tip. So a 7.15 would cast a 7 wt line but maybe not very long distances. I would try to determine your fishing distance as best you can and adapt to there. A 6 wt would probably be best for longer distance but a 7 would be better for in close to moderate lengths. The 7 would load the rod easier and faster IMO. Re: ERN AND LINE WT.

Try both lines and see witch line performs the best on it. Sounds like the 6 may be good for that Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
