I am looking for a "long blank" for fishing off the piers here in the Great Lakes for casting Flatfish/Quickfish and little Cleo's up to 1/2 an oz. I'd be running 6 and 8 lb lines - and using a Shimano 4000 Stradic. I was hoping to get something in the 10ft - 6" range but did'nt really want to go any shorter ! I am not crazy on fast taper blanks - would prefer something more through action (similar to fly-rod blank) Seen the All-Star which on paper looks as if it is very suitable to do the job - But want to keep my options open ....... ! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Mal. Re: Steelie/Brown-blank selection .... ?

The Rainshadow IST1263 is a nice blank, maybe a bit faster than you are looking for but it builds a very good spinning rod. Rated at 8-12. The DR's are a bit heavier than what you are looking for, but they do have a wonderful moderate action and can cast a mile. Re: Steelie/Brown-blank selection .... ?

For the 10'6" blank for your purposes, I would check out model 2C106MLM2. It has moderate fast action and sensitive tip and still. These are strong blanks in satin black finish. With a good set of ceramic or zirconia ring guides ideally spaced for stress distribution, I think you'de have about as close to your expectations as can get. Big thanks to everyone who replied to my post. Looks like I'm going with the Rainshadow Steelhead blank. Mal. Marlow Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
