Long drill bits

Does anyone know where to find long 8' or more woodworking bits (pilot point type) suitable for doing handles? I have not been able to find them anywhere, even in woodworking catalogs.
I started this as a new thread so it would be easy for future searchers to find it

8 feet? Or 8 inches? Both would be hard to come by but I think the 8 feet bits would be nearly impossible.

If you bore after you turn you can swap ends in a self centering chuck and meet darn near in the center every time. If you bore first on square stock then I can see a problem but don't have an answer for you.

You can purchase "glow rods" which are used for installing cables and other wiring through walls in lengths up to 6 foot. I am not sure if they are self centering, I do know that they are highly flexable.
