U40 PermaGloss Finish

I recently bought a blank described as Matte Clear and think I would like to put a gloss finish on it to both protect and look good. Permagloss by U40 had been suggested to me in the past as a good product for this purpose. I have had problems in the past because I was using a brush that didn't seem to leave a smooth finish, but rather on close inspection a pitted, uneven look.
Anyway after a search of PermaGloss and reading several of the post on the subject I learned that perhaps a coffee filter or cheesecloth applicator with 2-3 thinner coats would be better.
My questions are two I guess. One, since applying the Permagloss successfully seems to stem from a light coat applied smoothly without stopping and starting a great deal would it not be wise to apply the Permagloss to the blank before any guides or handles have been put on to get in your way. I can leave the space where the handle is going without any PermaGloss and this could be my stopping point when applying the product with the coffee filter or cheesecloth.?
Second, is this product the right product to use for this purpose since after reading the posts in the search I discovered that this product seems to be used more for covering thread wraps then providing protection and finish to an entire blank?
Thanks for the help

Permagloss will be excellent for coating your blank. Yes, coat the entire blank, top to bottom, before doing any guide installation. There is no need to leave areas of the blank unfinished.

Read the blank finishing article in the online library here for more information.
