want to try burning some designs in cork and wood handles yet to be built. anyone done it? tried to find past posts searching with "woodburning and cork" but no returns. would a 50 watter be enough heat? THANKS

Go to Photos section and under member galleries go to Joe Emig. He has done a reel seat using a woodburner to give a "scales" effect. You may want to contact him. The seat looks pretty cool.

I've burned designs in wooden custom landing net handles, but never in cork. I don't see any reason why you couldn't burn in cork if you watched your heat and pressure. I have seen designs 'branded' into cork grips on rods. C2

Before you woodburn, look into your local engraving store to find out if they have a laser engraver. My brother owns an engraving store and I have used the laser engraver for many designs on wood/cork/hyperlon/eva etc. It can be costly but the end product is fantastic. The designs and logos etc. are unlimited if you find a good store with a good artist. Coral Draw provides many clipart designs etc. if you want to go that route. Usually they will take your design, scan it into the computer and tweek the design by vectoring so that the design is flawless. The engraveing will be sharp and very definitive. Depth and width of lines is adjustable to get the desired effect.

P.S. The engraving needs to be done before the cork goes on the rod due to limited length of the engraver printer.
