I saw the recent post on Single Foot Ceramic guides for a fly rod. I am building two 3wts and two 4wts, and planned to use the ceramic guides on all of them. Any fly rod builders out there think I'll have any problems? Re: Single Foot Ceramic Guides

No problems at all. I have built everything from 2wt's to 10 wt's and used single foot ceramics on all of them. IMHO the look better, cast better and wrap easier. The only thing I use double foot for is the stripper guides. Re: Single Foot Ceramic Guides

I've built several fly rods with single foot ceramic guides and the only problem I've had is that some of the manufacturers make the feet too wide. I just finished two rods with Fuji Alconites and had to make the feet quite a bit narrower on the guides next to the tip top. I also shorten the feet because I think they're too long. I still have some single foot ceramic fly guides that I'll use, but when they're gone I plan to switch to v-frame spinning guides. If you look at the specs in the Batson catalog, they're only a tiny bit taller than the same size fly quide and the feet are shorter. I already use these for stripper guides and like them. If you take a look you can notice that the Batson single foot fly guides are higher then most others. helps to keep the line off of the blank Re: Single Foot Ceramic Guides

I know it's really pricey, but if you can afford Titanium single foot SIC ceramics for those 3 wts, you'll never regret it. They hardly weigh more than a set of snakes, and the performance is unbelievable. You have the best of all possible worlds: their light weight doesn't dampen the rod tip as much as other ceramics, and the SIC inserts are so amazingly slick. Fly lines just zing through them. I've gotten to the point that I only use Titanium SICs when I build for myself--that's how spoiled I am now. (As much as they cost, I don't build much for myself.) On 3 and 4 wt. rods, I use all sz. 6 guides, with the exception of my first stripper, which is a sz. 8. I don't notice that the smaller than average stripper seems to make any difference regarding casting distance. Often, my strippers will be high frame spinning guides, as the line has a straighter path from the reel that way. Regardless of what type you get, go with ceramics. They are so much better than snakes. Re: Single Foot Ceramic Guides
