Read the spacing articles in the online library. What type guides will you use?? Snakes or single footed ceramics. Hope your friend will be honest with you but I can already sense he's maybe jaded if he fishes with a Sage. Don't let him hurt your feelings. Re: guide size-atc matrix 2pc 10 wt

Ahhh, the fundamental Sage paradigm. Will they ever learn? A great fly rod does not need to cost $650!! Ahhh! Are all fly-guys stinking rich or what? I'm sure not, but I still like a quality rod, and refuse to spend upward of $200 to build one! Build him a Sig V and tell him to sell his fancy-shmancy Sage. In my opinion Sage is just like Nike shoes. Your just paying a heck of a lot of money just for their name. Sage does make some great blanks, however, I still cant believe how much they charge. Especially the "affordable" models. Why would anyone pay that much for IM6 graphite, aside from impressing their buddies with the name brand? I don't get it. Maybe its just because I grew up fishing crappy rods, but caught a @#$%& of a lot of fish with them. I would reccomend a Five Rivers or comparable blank over a Sage/Winston/Scott/T&T without hesitation. Very nice rods. Spend the extra $500+ on a sweet new reel. As for guides, on my 10 wt Sig V, I just bought a appropriate set from a sponsor and spaced them according to the static placement article in the Library above. Casts great. They'll be happy to set you up with the right set. Use the single foot ceramics and you'll never look back....I like the blue rings. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
