Maderia thread

Would some of you builders that use Maderia thread share with me the type of thread, and the size thread you are using. They carry rayon, polyester, etc. I would like to use some for butt wraps as they have so many colors, but don't know which to buy. Some are embroidery thread, some are metallic. I am comfused.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Art

Art,
You would want the Madeira Polyneon 40wgt. It's slightly smaller than Gudebrod A. Stay away from Rayon- it not UV safe ,i.e. the Sun will lighten the color. Also in the metallics, look for 40 wgt. Stay away from their color twist. Madeira is manufactured in Germany, is of excellent quality and yes it is made for doing embroidery. I've now done a couple of Steelhead rods where I've wrapped the guides with the Polyneon and it's held up as good as Gudebrod. I would suggest always use color preserver. Saturate the threads well and you should not have a problem. Also , wrap the guides tight and pack the thread wraps tight and it will come out gorgeous. And yes the color assortment is unbelievable, which is why more and more rod builders are using it. Good luck!

One note on the metallics, if you're gonna use them for solid underwraps, certain colors react with epoxy. Glass Coat CP over Madeira Metallic Cobalt will form a nice cloud once the epoxy is put over it. Straight epoxy without CP will result in something beyond fisheyes.

I'm going to be ordering Superior and YLI/Fishhawk metallics, as tehy look great, are just as easy to use as Madeira, and there is no finish problems for me.

PS - Polyneon over metallics with no CP looks awesome.

Being a recent convert, Polyneon 40 is the way to go. Its slightly thinner than "A" gudebrod, and it comes in 351 colors. Its good to know that Polyneon over metallics with NO CP looks awesome.

Where do you get Madeira thread? It sounds perfect for thread art but wraps.
