can anyone send me or direct me to a pic of a checkerboard grip? also, I'm going to make an alternating cork-burl grip. would it be better to ream each piece or glue all pieces together and then ream entire handle? thanks to all! I have gotten a lot of help from this board in the last week or two!!! Re: cork grips

You can do it either way. I make mine on mandrels and bore them to about the right size to the fit the rod to begin with and then choose the same size mandrel. I keep about 5 mandrel sizes on my bench. After I turn the grip in a wood lathe then I only have to ream a very small amount to get the final fit right. If you have a lathe that can handle an entire rod you can just build the grip right there on the blank and turn from there. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
