I read the post about finishing cork, but my question is do you HAVE to seal it? I noticed many rods from the manufactures have very little if any sealer or discoloration? What are they using? On another note, I can see where underwraps are required to protect the blank on large rods with large fish, are the underwraps a MUST on fly rods or can you wrap guides without underwraping them? Cork seal is not required and many rods are made without it's use. Underwraps are not a must on fly rods, however propper preperation of guides is necessary. Do a search on cork seal and on guide prep and you should be able to find all the info you need on both of these subjects... Re: Cork finishing / Underwraps

Dave , underwraps have been a subject here many times , I've come to the conclusion that they are for show only and serve absolutly no purpose at all in blank protection. John Re: Cork finishing / Underwraps
