Rod Guides

I have built a few salmon rods and used sictic guides for the rods. I use braided line so my thought was to be sure to get guides that would withstand the abrasion of the braided line. I have been getting my components and quite a few of my blanks from a local supplier who is telling me that he uses hard aluminum oxide guides and has had no problems with them. I know this guy catches way more fish than me and uses the same lines. It looks like I could cut my guide cost by 1/2. Any comments or suggestions from anybody? I

they will work. i use them too and have no problems. but i do go ahead and use the better tip. the tip seems to take more abuse then the rest of the guides and when the tip gets a nick in it it tears the brade apart.
