GUIDE FEET PREP

Having a problem with rust showing throgh the threads on my surf rods. I use mostly high frams Fuji guides. Prep ramps, which brings them to bare metal. Some I have applied paint prior to wrap. Have tripple wrapped some. Heavily apply sealer and up to three coats of polymer, however at end of a hard season of rod tweaking have noticed rust coming up through the threads. Does anyone have any suggestions. Or advise as to what I can apply to rod feet prior to wrap. Thanks Al Tennant

It would seem to me that if they're rusting, they must not be totally sealed. Are you making sure the gaps on the side of the guide feet are completely filled with epoxy? If those little tunnels (even tiny ones) are left open it could cause a this.

I agree with Dave, If there is rust, then somehow water is getting under the wrap and it shouldn't. Make sure the tunnels are filled with epoxy.

Albert,
When you grind the feet of the guides you are not grinding them beyond the point that will be covered by thread and epoxy are you?
As far as what to apply to the rod/guides to prevent this is concerned, you will reduce the problem if you will wash the rod and guides off with fresh water after use and wipe the rod and guides down with a cloth that you have sprayed with wax, a good furnature wax like Liguid Gold will work.

Also I would add that the threads should be covered and be extended onto the blank just enough to seal the ends so no water gets under them

Thanks guys I 'm sure its the concensus that I'm not sealing the tunnels. Upon close check of these rods I can see some minute voids.
