I read some posts a while back concerning the use of buffing compounds and then wax to get a satin finish on matte blanks. I have a few questions about this process. First, has anyone had any problems with the compound or wax causing any fish eye in the finish? Is this a real concern? Secondly, do you wipe the blanks down with alcohol after waxing? Does this reduce the gloss/satin finish you just established? The idea sounds good, just wondering if all the bugs are worked out yet. Thanks, Joe Re: rubbing compound on matte blanks

Rubbing compound is just an abrasive. If cleaned well, I can't imagine it would cause problems. I think I'd wax after applying finish. Just a thought. Re: rubbing compound on matte blanks

---Definately apply the wax after the finish. After waxing your done,my experience is that alchohol dissolves the wax.Scotchbrite->Rubbing compound->polishing compound->alchohol->finish->wax. In that order works for me,although I'm not sure of the grit difference between the scotchbrite and the rubbing compound, this sequence is very sufficient to me. this is a guidline, Acquire the compounds and experiment yourself......But wax only after every other step is complete. After waxing if your still not happy you can go back with the polishing then straight to the wax if no further finish is to be applied. This is my understanding and procedure.
