I'm thinking of building a little 3 wt fly rod and wanted to make an all cork reel seat/grip but can't seem to find the rings I'll need to hold the reel. Can anyone direct me to a vendor? I've noticed that none of the big fly rod manufacturers make a cork reel seat on their light rods, they all use the standard reel seats. Is there a reason for this? Re: light fly rod reel seat

Rush River Rods sell nice hardware, [pages.prodigy.net], also Cortland seels rings for this as well. Cork reel seats are great on light rods. Bob Re: light fly rod reel seat

Janns has the all cork seat and grips and they are a sponsor of this site. I'd check with them first. Re: light fly rod reel seat

I am building a similar rod and ordered the Janns reel seat/grip (it's less than $10). I wasn't too crazy about the shape of the grip, so I ordered a Struble UL grip to use with the reelseat portion from Janns. It ended up being just what I was looking for. It's kind of like the old Orvis Superfine grip/seat, which I've always liked. Re: light fly rod reel seat

Why not use a Fuji skeleton seat (SKM16) and make the insert of cork? I've done this on several occasions, and it's worked great. You get all the advantage of the light hardware (Fuji skeletons are awfully light) and the stability of the Fuji hoods. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
