Ferrules for bamboo rod

I have someone who gave me older bamboo rod parts for a casting rod. Problem is the top and bottom are from different rods and the ferrules do not match size. The top portion he has is bigger than the bottom. Which means to me, that to get a ferrule that would work, I would have to cut some of the top to get to the correct size for the ferrule. Right at first, it looks like I would almost have to cut the top around 8-9 inches just to match the diameters between the top and bottom. If this rod is not to be used again, but for display purposes, I would see no problem in doing that. But if the rod is meant to be used, would it be worth cutting that much off the top just to try and make the 2 parts fit up since they are not originally meant for each other.

Michael:
Do not cut the tip that far up to fit the ferrule. These sections were simply never meant to be joined. If you cut that much off and thus shorten the rod, the action will be lousy. When I trim broken bamboo rods to reset a ferrule, I never go beyond 2-3".

Bob ihave had the same problem and I agree do not cut the blank. what I have done is start checking the yard sales and swap meets to see if I can find an old rod with the the matching ferrule. Do not over look the older fiber glass rods.

Would it hurt to get the ferrule that would fit the lower section and then remove the upper ferrule and sand down the blank till it fits into the new ferrule?

Well, You may weaken it beyond hope. If it is really close, you might be better off building up the tip. You could use thread to underwrap and build up the station.
