I have used Garden Tractor bearings that I got online. I went for the import bearings since they were lower in price and their quality wouldn't be an issue in this application. I don't have a store locally that carries these but I would imagine that a place like "Central Tractor", "Farm and Family", etc would have them. Just make sure you clean them well so you don't have any grease that might compromise your work. Ray Re: Spine-finder Bearings

Barry , you may also check your local auto parts store for axle bearings for light duty trucks . I'm fourtunate to use bearings all day at work , so I had pick of what I needed. Ray is right about the grease . unless you find sealed bearings , just makesure they spin easy enough if they are sealed . If they don't , pop the seal out using a pick . I got some from home depot, this is for golf shafts of course, but should work for any fishing rod I would think. Re: Spine-finder Bearings

I bought bearings from a bearing supply house. Took a 2" PVC "T" in to them and they fitted bearing to is in minutes. I got the cheap "open face" bearing, not the sealed ones that hold grease, for $4 each. I soaked them in solvent and cleaned them out real good. This spine finder has been part of my bench now for some 10 years with no problems. Lou Re: Spine-finder Bearings

Bass pro shop sells wheel bearings for trailers. That is where i got them. However, I was not able to construct a satisfactory spine finder using bearings. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
