Hello Folks. I want to build a fly rod mainly for bass fishing and about once a year I take a trip to Canada for northern pike. Is there such a rod that could handle both of these fish? If so please reply with suggestions. I already have a 5wt and a 9wt 9' which I use for gills and bass THANKS Re: what rod do you recommend

Brooks, The 9 wt. should serve you well for bass and pike fishing. A lot of blank choices, but you might consider St. Croix in SCIV or the SCIII graphites. The Shikari SHII series are worth a look. Unless you have muskie ambitions, I believe an 8 or 9 wt. rod is just the ticket for your chosen fish species. For the bluegill, I'm sure the 9 wt. is overpowered but probably not something you'll bother with in most parts of Northern Canada.
