when underwrapping, should i use the same size thread for the overwrap? do you overwrap directly on the underwrap or do you coat it with a finish first? thanks Re: underwraps

Many people find it easier to use one size larger thread for the overwrap. An underwrap of size A followed by an overwrap of D for example. I usually put a coat of color preserver on the underwrap before I make the overwrap. Many people will go ahead and finish the underwrap, applying one application of their epoxy finish. After is has cured, you can make the overwrap and because you are wrapping on a smooth surface you could use the same size thread for the overwrap as you did for the underwrap, if you wish to do so. Either of these methods makes overwrapping somewhat easier. ................ Re: underwraps

As usual, Tom is right on the money. The second reason I like to put a coat of finish on my underwraps is that it keeps everything (saltwater, fish slime, etc.) from ever contaminating the underwrap. P. S. I use A thread rather than D for wrapping guides because I think it looks less bulky on the rod. Re: underwraps

I use a size "A" under wrap, CP if other than white, apply finish, wipe of with lintless towel and let dry. I then use "A" for the overwrap, apply , wipe, and let dry . Then if double wrap required, either "A" or "D" (heavy offshore). Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
