I'm replacing a broken Fuji alconite guide on a Loomis P841 rod. I've removed the broken guide and nearly all the LS Supreme finish. I'm down to just a tiny amount of finish. Just enough to leave a little dull rough finish where the thread was. Can I just wrap the guide back in the same place and finish it? I don't think the remaining finish will show up at all but I'd like to do it right the first time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ron Greenbank Re: guide replacement

Ron, For what it's worth I'd try and get the finish where you will be wrapping as smooth as you can. The rougher it is, the harder to wrap evenly, and also the harder to burnish once wrapped. Cheers Andy Re: guide replacement

If you haven't done this already: Warm the area with a hairdryer (not too hot). Scrape the remaining epoxy with the edge of an old credit card (other tools work, but this is a good, relatively safe way). To avoid slips, put masking tape around areas past where the wrap will go. You can stop when everything is smooth, or reasonably so, then wrap over it all. Just try not to get into the actual blank finish, as opposed to the wrap finish. Re: guide replacement

Thanks for the help guys. I hadn't even thought about the burnishing. I appreciate all responses. Ron Re: guide replacement

I relpaced a few and I had to extend epox a little past where the first epox ended to cover any sign of removal work. I don't think I would want to replace a guide more than a couple of times, I would end up with a 3" thread wrap.LOL ED.... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
