CP vs. regular yellow thread

I don't normally use the non NCP yellow threads, so I was unprepared for my results on my wrap. I wrapped a "rainbow" chevron for someone, and it looked great. I did my normal 3 coats of CP on the wrap (several hours between each), let dry for about a day after the last coat, then put my first coat of FlexCoat lite on. The yellow still let the orange beneath it bleed through. Is this most likely because: I didn't use NCP (I wanted the "livelier" color of regular) Poor CP application Or just a fact of life?? Thanks for any ideas. Dave Re: CP vs. regular yellow thread

Even with CP there will be some slight bleeding, particularly with size A thread. But it shouldn't have become transparent. Careful planning can help curtail this to a degree. I normally plan my patterns so that lighter threads go in first and the darker shades on top of those. Packing the threads tightly together during the wrapping phase can also help with color retention. ................... Re: CP vs. regular yellow thread

Sometimes you can't help but use the NCP thread. If you know that you are going to be faced with a very, very light color over a darker one then you are better off using the NCP. I will agree with everyone who has said that the Gudebrod 811 CP seems to hold the color of the light yellows and greens better than other CPs. Re: CP vs. regular yellow thread

Thanks for the info. I have the gudebrod, but always used the U-40. I will try it the next time in this situation. Dave Re: CP vs. regular yellow thread

I recently did a black rod with yellow thread, two coats of U-40 CP and the black still comes through a little. I bought some white thread 4oz to do underwraps on all dark blanks using light colored thread. Would others do it that way or just do a couple coats of the color you are going to use with CP between each one? Thanks Jim Re: CP vs. regular yellow thread

I recently did a spinning rod with Gudebrod size A in a yellow and used the Gudebrod CP. Coated each guide with three coats of the CP and still had some problems at the opening of the tunnel. I did the wraps two and three times and still had small flaws after the finish sat for awhile. Next time I use a yellow over a dark blank and need to keep the true color, I plan to use NCP thread.
