Uh-Oh, I think!

Put the regular build rod finish on a blank I am redoing and I'm begining to wonder if the 1:1 ratio may have been a little off. I had in on the dryer all of lastnight and most of the day today in the basement (little on the cool side) and the finish isn't tacky but doesn't feel completely cured either. If the mixture was off just a tad, will it cure eventually or am I in trouble.

If it was off a tad on a large mix then it will cure. If it was off a tad on a small mix then it will not. If it is not tacky but only soft then you are probably okay. It will harden more over the next 2 or 3 days.

Well if it doesnt cure within a day or two you are pretty much screwed! The same thing happened to me and then before i could refinish it witha lite coat dust got on it and I had to strip all the guides off. Try and keep your rod in a dust free place and put a really , light light coat of finish on top of the wraps. But if you get any dust on it before then u are pretty much forced to strip all the guides off!
hope this helps,
~Don~

Jeff, take your rod upstairs where it is warmer and leave it for a couple of days. Don't put it near a heat vent, just where it is warmer. Don't panic or do anything for a couple of days.

William is correct on the batches. It is usually better to mix more than less. I try to mix at least a 4 dram mixture, two of each, especially on a custom where I want to lessen the probability of error.

When I got back from the FlyFishing show in Charlotte this afternoon I moved it upstairs and left it alone. Already notice and improvement in it thank goodness.
