Wooden rod

I recenty picked up an old wooden fly rod at an antique shop in Pa. that I am going to try and restore. There are absolutely no markings at all on the rod. The rod is round. What kind of wood is this rod likely made of ? Is there any way to get more information on this rod ? Thanks.

Could be any number of wood types - hickory, ash, greenheart or even cedar. Cedar was popular on many of the early rods.

Studying any of the old antique tackle guides could possibly uncover your rod or a similar one and tip you off to some clues on its construction.
