Holding guides in place

Recently on this board I saw a suggestion for holding guides in place using some kind of tubing that comes with a fishing lure that is available at Walmart. What was the lure? Is the tubing available from any source without buying the lure? Thanks, Rob

I have been using small rubber bands that are used to hold braids or dreads they are about 1/4"-3/8"Dia.thin black rubber bands . doubled over and roll up the blank one for each foot. wrap up to band and then cut them off my son said they are about $1.00 a bag

Clemens tackle (page 28 of catalog) sells a "guide placement aid" It's Thin walled latex tubing, and comes in different diameters. The cost is 3.15 for 3 feet. Try it...

You can also find the tubing at some hobby store, if you don't want to wait for the shipping. They work great. I will never go back to tape again!

Rob,
Try using 20 to 30# Monofiliment line. Cut off around 12", tie a uni-knot, slide over the guide and pull tag end tight. When wrapping, wrap the guide thread up to the mono, snip with nail clippers, and continue. Your done. I use two of these when securing a guide for test casting, holds them in place nicely, also makes moving the guide around for adjustment a breeze. Give it a try.

I noticed in the new issue of RodMaker (Vol.5, issue #1) on page 17, a tip from Mark Carlton using small rubber bands as guide placement aids. Looks easy and interesting.

I am not sure what it is called in other parts of the country, but on Long Island I have heard it reffered to as mackeral tubing. You see it on diamond jigs sometimes as an added attractant. All you need to do is clip a piece about an 1/8" of an inch and slide it over the guide feet. That will hold it in place. The 3' you can get from clemens will last you for a very long time.

I have been using elastic thread. I think it is generally used for bead necklass. Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc.
