Hey guys in reference to a post below about best fly blanks Well In my opinion there is no best but one can have favorites. What do you folks like or what are your customers favorites in "GENERAL" for fly rods to 4wt - 9wt, all around use for per a given wt(4 wt not used for stripers etc) for the sake of this poll. Also how many of you use and like blanks from small shops or Non major brands such as , East branch rods (One of my favorites I know there out of business now darn it ), Dan Craft blanks, Hal Bacon, Etc. Thought this would be somewhat fun and informative. Happy wraps "John" Re: Favorite fly blanks rod blanks not based on cost.

John I like St. Croix blanks, both SCIII and SC IV. I like them because the fishermen I build the for like them. I also like them because I live in Minnesota and they are made in Wisconsin. I also prefer beer brewed in either Minnesota or Wisconsin. Jim Re: Favorite fly blanks rod blanks not based on cost.

You just can't beat (in my opinion) the IMX series for cost versus performance and lightness. RUnner-up is SCIV from St. Croix. If cost is not an option then Sage is #1 in my book. My very favorite rod, not an all-arounder, the old Sage LL793 (7'9" 3wt.) For spring creeks and delicate presentations, it's the best in my book. Can't beat Five Rivers Signature IV for performance vs cost. Re: Favorite fly blanks rod blanks not based on cost.

G.Loomis GL3 and the St. Croix SCIV are my favorites and cost has never been a consideration when I built a rod. The original Loomis IMX fly rod blanks were also excellent. I also had some blanks made to my specs from that fiber and they performed and held up well. Eventually I will get around to trying some of the RainShadow models. I have heard nothing but good things about them. .............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
