Hi, Just wanted to say what a great site this has been. I ran into a problem yesterday with my epoxy. Not sure if I measured the epoxy right or not, but my epoxy is still sticky even after the rod has been drying for 9 hours. I use Flex Coat High Build Epoxy, but this is th first time this happen to me. I don't think the temperature is too cold either because the heater was on all night. What are the consequences for unequal parts of epoxy? What should I do next as far as putting another coat of epoxy, or let it sit for a few days and hopefully it will fully dry and then apply another coat? Thanks in advance for all your help. David improper measurement or mixing will cause problems every time, generally you can mix a new batch of finish correctly and apply and it will recitiy the problem John Re: sticky epoxy

John is correct. But I think I'd let it sit for a full 24 hours in a warm area (at least room temp - 70F or so) and see what happens. During the winter months some builders have found the cooler temps that occur in their basements and garages slow down the cure of the epoxy. If it doesn't cure tack free in 24 hours, and the rod has been kept warm, then you can recoat with another batch. This time think about using syringes to measure with and mix a full 3cc's of resin and hardener each. That sometimes sounds wasteful, but it gives you a bit larger margin for error and prevents having to redo a rod. Thus, it is often cheaper in the long run. .............. Re: sticky epoxy

Sticky epoxy will be after use never drying again. Not even when you rise the temperature. When your epoxy coating is not drying you didn't use the exact 50/50 mix or you don't mix it corectly or not in a long time enough! Only what you can do is, remove the sticky epoxy from your tyings and rod with a lot of cellulose thinner and a toothbrush and try it again with a new epoxy mix. Good luck from a Dutch rodbuilder. www.sensorfishing.f2s.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
