I am building a #30 Standup Rod and I would like a bit of advice.Should I use C/P or a thin coat or finish on my underwraps, before I wrap my guides[LRSG`s].Or should I wrap everything and then apply the finish. My concern is getting enough finish to the underwraps and getting a good seal at the tunnels. My own technique is to put an application of CP on the underwraps and then make the overwraps. Some people will finish the underwraps (CP and finish or just finish) before making the overwraps. Both methods are fine and you just need to choose the one that suits you the best. ................................. Re: Finishing

Jerry: I like to use size "A" thread for both an underwrap and overwrap. Appling finish to the underwrap allows me to do this. John Re: Finishing

John has it right . Whether or not you use CP on the underwrap I think there are two good reasons for applying a coat of finish on the underwrap. First, you create a nice smooth hard surface for the guide wrap (which you do not have with just CP). Second, you insure that nothing can contaminate the underwrap threads even if you do not get the tunnel underneath the guide feet completely filled. Hugh Miller Re: Finishing

My technique is to apply a finish epoxy to the underwrap, wipe it off after good penetration, let it harden a few hours then complete the guide wrap and finish. This ensures the tunnel has been sealed as you can see any spaces around the foot and gives me a good base to do the top wrap. Same with CP if it is used. CP must be completely dry before you apply finish on top. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
