What happened to Sabre blanks? They still sold on the open market? Or only can be bought as Penn rods. Re: What happened to Sabre blanks?

I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong, but I believe Sabre blanks are made by Pac Bay. You can check out their line-up at www.fishpacbay.com. Mark Re: What happened to Sabre blanks?

The original company changed hands and the designs were sold. I can't remember the entire history at this point. Maybe somebody else can remember the various paths taken to what Pac Bay now sells as Sabre blanks. .......... Re: What happened to Sabre blanks?

Sabre ceased manufacturing sometime in the late 80's if i remember correctly, but possibly the early 90's. The whole business was attempted to be purchased and reorganized as a new company called American Sabre (I think). This never was finalized, and the equipment, the name and the mandrels were sold off. If memory serves me correctly, Penn purchased the name (Sabre) and some of the equipment. Seeker and Pac-Bay both purchased mandrels to most of the models, and make them today . Seeker sells them with the same model numbers as the original Sabre's under the Classic heading, but I'm not sure if Pac-Bay still sells them or not or under what designation. To my understanding Penn sells the rods under similiar numbering to the original Sabre's, but they are different. On this I'm not really sure. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
