I sold a rod build before I realized how difficult it is (for me at least) to find size A "Kelly Green" thread! I'm taking any and all suggestions on this one! I have a few that I am looking at, but if you Google "Kelly Green", and try to find a match, it seems to be difficult to "match" the color. ProWrap comes up with Neon Green, Fuji Ultra has "Medi

Allow me to offer a little background of carbon fiber (CF) and fiberglass (FG) and then compare the two, hoping to explain and eliminate some of the misconceptions. Concerning our fishing world, FG became the new state-of-the-art material for blanks in the late1940s and quickly displaced the use of previously premier split-cane bamboo; FG was lighter, immensely less labor-intensive = lower cost,

Is there a “conversion” to thread “weights” compared to the A,B,C, etc..we’re used to using fior rod builds. There is a sewing place literally 90 seconds from my house, and I dropped in there one day just to see. They had an incredible selections of colors. But their sizing uses “weight”. I know it kind of has to do with weight for every 1000. And look to be a A or B size diameter. These are “

Is anybody familiar or have built on the Zentron Fiber blanks? It looks like its a nylon S-2 8 Micron fiber with similar properties to carbon graphite (carbon/rayon). How are they, what do think or what else do you know? Material properties, weight, strength, elasticity, etc? Looks like something new.

Hello all. Ive done a quick search but came up empty handed. Has anyone used cotton or polyester sewing thread to wrap the guides? If not. Any reasons why I should not use them. Thank you!

Simple question. Does anyone make a decent metallic thread, strength wise. I used to use metallic thread in the past for nearly all my guide wraps. I took a break from building right about the time Gudebrod went out of the rod thread business. Been back in the game for about two years. I have used some of the current metallic offerings for trim wraps. It is acceptable for that. But I would not ev

So I initially did some wraps previously with viscose and rayon thread. This was a while ago. I noticed then, that after I applied several coats of color preserver, the threads would "spread" apart. I found this really odd. After that I would burnish the wrap and it would go back to looking good and in order. On other spots where the wrap did not spread with color preserver, when I

Hello All, I hope your winter is going well. Here in Minnesota we just came out of a -20 below snap of fun and games! Anyway, have any of you found a solvent based color preserver that you like? Why is it that we had really great color preservers in the 70's and now it appears they're all water based and most people are not happy with them. I just ordered some of Al's Silk Color Rite. I know i

Is wrapping thread the same as sewing thread, or can you use sewing thread? Reason I ask, is my mom owns sewing shop, so I have access to probably 3000 different colors and wholesale pricing. If so, I will hook you all up if I can.

Hi guys. I used Flex Coat color preserver with LS Supreme finish. I like to longer open time but had some darker coloring in my threads. I used a dark blue but had it go darker after applying the finish. The Flex Coat was applied heavy so I don't think it was dry. The CP was applied to makes sure any gap was full and filled in where the guide foot bent up. My conclusion is that the finish must ha

So I'm in Florida right now, and when I go back to Cali on Friday, I'll have a brand spankin' new Seeker blank to turn into a spinning rod! I was thinking about painting it up to either the first or second guide in white. I would have the transition under the guide's underwrap. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON PAINTING BLANKS!!! I have that part down. Just wondering what your thought

I've never been a fan of using materials not designed for rodbuilding, but in an effort to match the dark green metallic of Rodgeeks, I bought some Madeira rayon, which is a good color match. However, when Flex Coat CP was applied, it darkened and stayed dark on drying. I must have the wrong Madeira? Can someone tell me what Madeira thread specs I should look for to get a thread which is compa

I'm thinking about trying Madeira thread. I went to their website and was totally overwhelmed. They list several different thread types, rayon, polyneon, frosted matt, metallics and even fire resistant thread. There appears to be 2 main sizes, #60 and #40 although there are some that come in #35, #30, & #20. My question is , "what type and size is generally used for rod wrapping. A

Hi, I have read that some of you guys use embrboidery thread for rod binding, have any of you used Gutermann polyester or metallics. Only asking as I can source these locally and can see the colours before buying. No one around where I live has any range of rod binding threads in stock. I know I will have to use cp. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers

I noticed on my twitter and facebook account people have shown builds where they are using embroidery thread and sewing thread on their wraps. 1st I am not accustom to using these threads. 2nd does the color preserver work on this thread? 3rd How do they hold up under UV? 4th What problems can I see using these threads? There are a boohoo of wonderful threads if using them is applicable.

I've heard that it's possible to use embrodiery thread to wrap rods. Is this a good idea? And, if so, are there any special conditions that accompany it's use?

Most of the thread type purchased at rod building suppliers seems to be of the "Nylon" type. My question is...... Can anyone give insight on using other types of thread for wrapping, such as a Polyester or Rayon thread? Quality vs. Durability? Or is it best to stay with a Nylon? BLAIR M.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced fuzzies in Sulky thread when doing trim bands or wrapping guides, usually after I apply first coat of finish. The odd thing when additional coats are applied the finish doesn't show any signs. I'm not really complaining just wondered abouts others using the same thread.

If one where to wrap with Rayon thread there is most often a problem with fish eye's do to the coating over the Rayon thread that rod wrapping epoxy does not normally like. My question is if one were to use a Metallic Rayon thread would you still run into the same problem's with fisheye and bonding since the Rayon thread has a metallic tinsel around it and there for removing the Rayon all togethe
