I have read, if I remember right, reduction guides generally do not affect TNF values. Also, the tip guide weight would have an effect on TNF. Also there is a detectable difference in TNF values of stainless steel and titanium running guides. I thought maybe using titanium runners for the first 2 guides on extra fast action, 3-4 running guides on fast action, and maybe 4-5 running guides on a

I saw a video recently where someone added weights to the butt of a rod to make it more balanced. He inserted some cylindrical weights to the butt end of the blank secured with pro kote paste. He inserted a 3/8 oz and 1 oz weights in the video. What are your thoughts on this method? Is this a legitimate thing?

I am sure this has been asked before so my apologies up front. I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. I am building a jig rod for bass on a mb7108 xray. Can someone recommend a guide train for this rod? I am hoping to use fuji torzite titanium guides.

When locating running guides on a long(11'), ultralight rod where casting power/distance is not as important as light swing weight, how would you balance a better static load versus using one less running guide and at least one less wrap on the tip half of the rod? I am building the NFC LMX FANY1102-4. I used a guide spacing chart from another vendor's 11' 2 weight Euro blank since it was all

I am planning to use LN and L frame Fuji alconite guides for 2 baitcasting rods. I will need to find some alconite tip top for them as well. I looked on Get Bit Outdoors website and found a Fuji LG tip top that also comes in alconite. But looking at the picture, the ring seems to be a bit high. I want the guides to line up appropriately and I hope this tip doesn't cause a offset to the layout

I build Bass, Panfish and primarily Walleye rods. I started a program where I get $ from my community and I build rods for kids at no cost to them or parents. Have a young man that wants a Northern Pike rod 7'6" Medium heavy with micro guides. Do I need to run double footed guides all the way to tip? or can I do 3 double footed guides tapering down to micros #6 running guides? He gets to go

Does placing hard wax on a male glass or graphite ferrule more likely..... 1. ensure the two pieces stick together better as in less likely to work loose while fishing 2. reduce the chances that the 2 sections will stick together so badly that you can't get them apart 3. both 1 and 2 4. neither 1 or 2 As always, thank you for your input.

Hi all, I haven't posted in some time because there are few good fly rod questions. Maybe the builders are getting better - or fly fishing is in a down-swing. I only build fly rods - so feeling kind of lonely. Herb CTS Rep

Hello from the Denver area. I'm brand new to this hobby and I have a gazillion questions. My back ground is in automotive, mostly painting. I have run body shops for a while now as working on the shop floor is not practical as I get older and more beat up. I already have 2 expensive and time consuming hobbies in hot rods and fishing. However, I saw a custom hand built rod at a fund raiser an

What factors makes a rod "sensitive" and what techniques and materials are you using to achieve the highest sensitivity? Also, interested to hear how you test as well. I have a number of rods under my belt at this point, mainly focused on minimal weight, and I'm finding the amount of weight you add to a blank is only part of the factors to consider. What are your tips, tricks, mater

I just finished making a 'new' rod out of a a St. Croix Mojo Bass factory rod that was broken off about an inch above the handle. The part I could salvage was 5'10" long; the power is medium heavy. My Steps: a.) Decided on a Spinning Rod over a Casting Rod (and to use only components I had on hand). b.) Removed factory guides and extra epoxy with a razor blade. Carefully. c.) Scraped

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has built an 808 NEO casting rod and if so, how many guides, their size and their placement that you used.. I am in the middle of 2 line static testing and it is driving me crazy. I have seemingly way to many guides and I still can't keep the line from dropping below the blank. Is that something I am going to have to live with or has someone successfully figu

Building a casting pike rod and debating what size butt guide to use, 10 as Fuji recommends, or slim down to a 7. Last night I was experimenting with a size 10 and size 7. I mocked up both guide options and threw a dozen or so casts with each and didn't notice an appreciable difference. The 10 may have the advantage by a few feet. Visually, the 7 definitely brings the line down quicker and is

I've been on a Learn More about the KR Concept kick for a couple weeks now. My first time reading and learning through the material a few years ago, I realized the many advantages and flexibilities KR provides. And just like with CCS, I knew there was even more to learn with a deeper study. One idea that stood out from the rest was Rapid Choke. The KR Concept advocates for a Rapid Choke, o

Super confused. I’m measuring my reel spool diameter at 47 mm x 27 = 1,269mm. That converts to 49.9 inches. My rod I’m building on is 6’ in length so with those numbers I’m roughly left with 10” of rod for running guides (that’s a rough measurement. It may be an inch or two more or less.) Am I doing something wrong? I feel like that’s a small amount of space to put three running guides. Also,

I have built quite a few inshore rods using the Microwave guide system with micro guides. I really like the line management of this system. 7 ft 10-18 lb blanks. I would like to build the same blank with Fuji guides that would come as close as possible to the line management. Have any of you found the closest Fuji guide train for this? Recommendations please.

Sorry if I missed this in the search but quick question I need the groups wisdom on - will I be ok to use 3.5 micros using 8-10 braid to 8-10 flouro? I've built a few rods with 4's and had no problems, but need a nudge to go down to the 3.5's. Details, guides I'm looking at are the Seaguide TiMKG 3.5's with the RS ring. Not sure what the ID measures, not provided in the info I could find.

It's a fate casting in white, with micro guides. 1 is bad and shaving the line, so I need to change it, when I figure out which one. They are really small micro guides so can't see any cracks. Any help on what brand guides they use will help. Thank you T

I'm building a rod on an MHX SB812 blank for my brother that he will use an older Ambassadeur 5500 C3 on for bass fishing. I'd like to end up with Fuji KT5 running guides, but am not sure what size stripping and reduction guides I'll need. I'm thinking 1 LKW12, 2 KB8, and 7 KT5 but am concerned about stepping down that much between guides both from a functional and aesthetic standpoint. Reel

Hey everyone. I'm making my very first rod now for my wife's anniversary gift and I have a second mudhole kit ordered for a birthday gift to a family member. Today my boss asked me if I could make a better rod for him on a very limited budget. He has a 5.5ft light ugly stick he uses mainly for crappie and wants the same length and power with more sensitivity and lighter weight. Now I messed up or

I use Flex Coat lite then I found a company from China had a two part epoxy for threads. I purchased a two oz to test it out. When I mixed the Chinese epoxy wow it gave off a smell that was very bad. I took it outside and opened up the windows. Thank God my wife was not at home. I went to the basement and took the fans upstairs. My clothing stunk. I had a bad headache even the next day. When my w

Wrapping up a couple rods this weekend and am finding still have some trouble once I get out toward the tip of the rod. Any tips/tricks to make this easier? Some of my issues include: - climbing up the guide foot seems a bit harder (thread wants to double up more and with the micro guides they want to move a bit when holding with surgical tubing) - sometimes my thread comes loose - getting t

Can I use silicone fuel tubing to temporarily hold the guides in place? I am not skilled enough to use the glue stick for placing the guides in place. To the professional Rod Builders I am impressed by your skill level.

Hi all, looking for some advice on what to do with an old Loomis I have sitting in the basement. It's on old GL3 CR 722 Fast, rated for 1/4 - 5/8 oz. I bought this years ago with one of my first paychecks earned as a cashier at a local fishing shop. The problem is I never really enjoyed the grip layout or the short 6' profile so I never use it anymore. I would like to strip this rod down

Hello all, I have a NFC CP-1342-4 blank coming in today. It is 160in, 1/8-1/2lb lure weight, 6-10lb line, 4pc light moderate blank. My plan is to build another centerpin rod for steelhead and salmon for great lakes river fishing off lake Ontario, Huron and Superior. I am looking to put a 22in handle on it. It will be paired with a 4.5-5in centerpin reel. I am planning to not use a tip to
