Can you adapt a trolling butt? Might lose some length, but an extension is possible as well.

I know some folks get decent results burnishing the top threads. I belive Scott Throop just did the bottom layer, and his tigers are awesome. I get good results just doing the bottom, either two or three threads.

Use a finish mixer. If you don't put bubbles on, you don't have to heat them out.

That's some funny stuff Roger!! I have an ex son-in-law that I still fish with, a pretty darn good building contractor that spent years as a nail banger. His favorite tool? A cord wrapped, stainless head 16oz framing hammer. Yep, decorative cord wrap as well. A wall hanger tool? Nope, an every day workhorse. You may be surprised at the number of people who like to use a fully functional and pret

Different strokes ......the fish I go for have a tendancy to rip the rod right out of your hands. All the lightness and sensitivity in the world won't get that fish in any easier. I like pretty....and bling....sometimes so pretty that I just have to hold the rod over the side and the fish jump in. Trim bands, weaves, decorative butt wraps rule!

My metallic overwrap will be in A thread. Cut off the tags of the under wrap scales a bit before the finish and complete the wrap, wrapping tight and burnishing. The tie offs are done in C. If I wrap tight enough with the metallic, the C won't slip in. But......I like to do inlays in the tie off and will often put a light coat of finish over the scale wrap first. I found that messing around with

I replace guides with cracked, chipped and missing inserts all the time. I don't think you have any other choices except inserts or plain rings. I think the recessed ring type is a bit more capable of withstanding damage. The only bulletproof guide I know of is the stainless frame boat guides with carbide rings.....like the Alps CWB.

Your XN is a big double foot guide. Mounted backwards (single foot to to the reel) allows the line a free pass through the ring. With a spinner, you have a large loop in the line to reduce quickly. Mounted conventionally, the line will react with the frame of the guide before it hits the ring. The guide looks different, some call it weird or funny looking. It works.

Sounds weird and looks funny but if you mount that 40 backwards it will make it easier to pass line.
