Hello Michael.
I prefer a gap about the size of "A-D" thread unless the rod bends way down, just remember that if a fish bends hard where the check is your rod could possibly break at the check.
You have to exorcise a little common sense (know wat you will be using the rod for and what the fish your fishing for and what those fish can do to you rod).

Hello All.
I just use a 3-1/2" X 3/4" X 3/8" piece of plexiglass with 2 holes drilled one in each end and a thirdhole drilled exactly between the two, stick 1" dowels into each of the end holes and a china marker in the middle one.

Hello Mark.
They look very nice, let us know what a 200# tuna does to them!
I would think if any problems emerge it will be stress fractures around the swivel mounting hinge hardware area.
If it shows no damage after the tuna test, try the 1000#+ marlin or shark test.
Whatever you do keep us informed, Thanks.

Hello Glenn.
Yes, there was a guy named Ken Preston, lived down the road from me in New Bern NC.
He made a lot of progress with it but never beat all the different problems with it before he died (I miss him, he was a good guy).
If you go to the search and put in his name and "ALL Dates" you should find a lot on him.
Hope this is helpful.

Hello All.
Tom, I always thought that CP was nothing more than watered down Elmers glue.
I just went into my shop and pulled out 5 different types of CP and they all have a milky look to them, just some more than others.
The milkiest one is Flex Coat, followed by U-40, then came ChromeaSeal, the two least milkiest were about the same they were Cason's Crystal Clear, and Gudbrod #811.

Hello Daryl.
One thing a lot of folks forget to do is to make sure your rod is level before you start finishing.
However to fix your problem follow Tom's instructions.

If this works you will at least get a look at the books cover, it can be hard finding it.
This may help, but if you do some surfing on the net you should find it and maybe at a better price.

Hello Greg.
Lay down a layer of epoxy where the sticker is going to go and once it's at least tacky dry put on your sticker.
If you are unsure you can get it down on a tacky surface without leaving prints just wait till it's dry, the second coat over the sticker will still adhere fine.

Hello El.
I "Think" this is the formula Tom came up with (I Think)
Lure Weights
Upper End: (1.5 X # of Cents) - 20 = Weight in Grains.}
-Then Convert Grains To Ounces.
Lower End: (.8 X # of Cents) - 20 = Weight in Grains.}
NOTE: ALL CENTS MUST BE 2005 OR LATER.
To convert from Fly to Spin: 1Wt = 1/8th oz. 2=3/16, 3=1/5th, 4=1/4, 5=5/16th, 6=3/8th,
7=3/5,

Hello Robert.
No you don't have to do anything, if you wish you can marble on just about anything.
A lot of the time I will wrap a section with metalic thread or add glitter or just over the blank the way it is, it all depends on what affect you are looking for.
It's your thing do-it.
