How do you keep the foam on the end of the butt cap from wicking up any permagloss or resin? Lots of pics but for people like me they go a long way in explaining things. Thanks Steve

My family and friends still prefer the look of a full grip cork handle with no bling. I like the split grip because of less reaming and less weight. The rear of the grip is also a good place for the decal and a hook keep. My personal rods these days have split gripTennessee handles. Steve

I still use the ink jet printer, currently the epson et- 2760 and the Papilia vinyl paper. I keep it simple with white on black most of the time. Steve

Yea, its the fast setting U-40 rod bond. I add a drop of black dye. I use a band saw to cut my reel seats down. Everything I do came from learning on this site or RodMaker Magazine. A few years back RodMaker Magazine had an article on this very subject. I couldn't find the reel seat plugs Tom references then or now so I just use rod bond or a small nub like the the others do. When you order an xray blank how do you go about getting the free real seat and soft touch grip kit. I added the soft touch grip kit to my cart and it wasnt free. Also If I order 3 xray blanks do I get 3 reel seats and soft touch grip kits? Thanks Steve

lol..."doodle socking"....never heard that term used for a crappie hog stick before... a new name to put on one of my decals..seems the original post has swayed from rod builders to rod manufacturers which I know nothing about since I started building my own...Like Tom says "a blank is a blank is a blank"

Im strictly a hobby builder for myself , family and friends. I've never made one dime from rod building. I do it for the pleasure of it and the fact I can target my builds towards certain species. For instance I build crappie rods on salmon steelhead blanks. They are designed to vertical jig crappies out of wood or tree tops. They are not built to cast although you can poorly. They are what I wo

I like my SB-683-1 Xray for vertical jigging Walleyes in the Mississippi River. I never cut it down though. Pac Bay Minimas are my go to guides. I recently purchased the SJ 703 and may cut it down to 6' 6". Steve
