Good advice on getting it off, what's next? I would not apply epoxy directly after using these products, but would clean the blank with alcohol, then do a mild rub with a fine Scotch brite pad, wipe with paper towel, then apply any epoxy needed. Might be OK without this final step, but I know it will OK with this step.

3062. Re: Max line lb for 2 mm
Is there a max when the line is so much smaller than the ID of the guide and you need no knot passage?

Your KL 16 and 8 are not KLH? I think that KLH's with a 5.5M would work. I use that combo for 10 # braid.
But I recommend you try your K guides and see. Do the Fuji GPS, making sure you get the right GPS for your guides. Then move the whole set of reduction guides together an inch or two either way to find the sweet spot.

Every fly rod I have ever tested for CCS was found to be at the high end on power, similar to what you found, 4.9 for a nominal 4 rated rod.

3065. Re: Fly rod storage
If you store them on a well-designed vertical rack, one that does not impart a curve into the rod, then they can be admired and also have no risk of taking a set. Any material. I would avoid horizontal storage for any long term storage, especially if you cannot observe the rods. Nice to be able to glance at them now and then, even pick one up and admire it. And to make sure that cane rod isn

Nearly, perhaps, but not always. The other rods I've put back into action seemed to feel the same, but I didn't check CCS. Some done with glass, some with graphite. Most broken near the tip. The fly rod was farther down, not near the tip.

Yes, glass is ideal, but using an old low modulus graphite rod for the sleeve can work quite well. I know all the reasons for using glass and for not using graphite, but I have done it a number of times. On one rod the CCS numbers did not change from new to the repaired rod and the rod seemed to perform the same as before it was broken (9 foot 8 wt fly rod broken in the third section up).

Roger is right on what the ingredients of WD40 are. From the official WD40 Company Material Safety Data Sheet.
By way, an aliphatic compound is a general type of hydrocarbon, the other being an aromatic hydrocarbon. Depends on the structure. Examples of aliphatic compounds are the simplest, methane (CH4), Ethylene, isooctane, acetylene, propene, propane, squalene, and polyethylene are exam

I suggest contacting Anglers Resource; they've always been very responsive when I've e-mailed them. Address in the catalog, link on left.

3072. Re: Pac Bay Arctos Fly
75 is faster than any Quickline I've built, so may we conclude that Artos is faster than Quickline? In fact 75 is significantly faster than any fly rod I've built, some of which are considered fast.

Herb, I have no immediate spin rod builds planned, but I'll try to remember to post my experience for you. I expect it will be very positive; always has been since I stated doing KLH builds. My last comment will simply be that since the weight differences between a train starting with a size 20 isn't significantly (at least to me) different than one starting with the 16, I'll most likely build

There is a big problem with the Anglers Resource site. When I go to the Anglers Resource site I see links across the top, one of which is GPS software. I click on GPS and there is no reference to NGC. So I go through the calculations with reel model, then guide package (SPECIFICALLY KLH, which is the guide train I'm trying to calculate), then click on calculate, I get the funky results. No me

3075. Re: Aligning guides
Regarding whether they have to be in alignment for best performance, because I am what I am, they have to be in perfect alignment or they bug the heck out of me. Forever. I'll bet that fits most of us builders.

Norm, I used the KLH for guide selection, Stradic 4000FG for the reel selection. Try it; see what you get. Herb, rod length has nothing to do with it, right? There is no input for rod length in the KLH/Stradic GPS calculation that I could see. The Stradic 3000 gave 21 inches + for the 20, Herb.
Here goes heresy: I think for normal fast action freshwater rods one can take the KLH 20-10-5

3077. Re: Aligning guides
Agree with Roger for the final check, but you will be surprised when you pinch gently a guide between the finger and thumb, then with those digits supported by the blank, run the finger/thumb down the rod to the next guide. If it's out of alignment you will probably notice it. I use that method when placing the guides to be wrapped onto the blank just before wrapping.
Then the final check li

Regarding GPS, I tried a Stradic 3000 with KLH guides in it and got a reasonable solution, right about what I would have done. When I entered the Stradic 4000FG I got a 20 at 11.6, a 10 at 17.1, and a 5.5 at 21.8. This is what I remembered when I mentioned the strange solutions above.

I have heard so many strange things about GPS, and have seen a few when I used to consult it, that I don't even open it any more. I use the guide groupings in the Anglers Resource catalog and there a 16 would be recommended for 10 pound braid, not mono. Use the running guide group for the type of rod (and line) , choose the runner size (all the same size) . I wont go into the rest of the proce

The easiest solution is obviously to return the rod and start over. For $550 one can get a pretty nice custom made rod. I didn't realize how expensive it was.

3082. Re: Cork Sealer
Thanks, John. I remember that string of posts. I sometimes use Tru Oil on burl as it gives more contrast, brings out the "grain." Yes the rubberized gets darker, part of the increased contrast that I like. I use just one coat.

I agree 100% with Roger and will add that I must have missed recommendations for 10 guides on a 7 foot rod. The rod specs sound like it's designed for something like 20 pound braid and most likely will work fine. It certainly will work fine with light braid, as mentioned by Herb.

If looking for traditional action Quickline is not the rod. Not familiar wtih any MHX fly rods. If liking a faster rod, QL is a beautiful, light, very nice rod. All the fly rods I've checked for CCS run at the top of the "range" for power. i. e. Quickline 6 wt measures almost 7. Rainshadow 8 measures almost 9. Might want to try one line wt up on our blanks. The price for Quickli

3089. Re: CCS on the Fenwick
Right. Subjective. I got it. However, if you ask a bunch of anglers how they would describe a rod with an action angle of 72 degrees, most will ask you what you're talking about, and the rest will answer "fast." There is value in knowing how most rod company ratings correlate to CCS. Even though it's subjective.

I would not go below 6 1/2 feet. That boy is growing fast and shouldn't have trouble with a 6 1/2 foot rod even today. And the casting ease and hook sets for a 6 1/2 far exceed any 5 1/2 I've ever seen.
If I were going to build this rod I think I would go with a Rainshadow Revelation. They have a whole bunch of suitable blanks to choose from whether you want to go short or long. This woul
